Loughborough Lightning are delighted to confirm the signing of Annabelle Codey, with the Australia international joining the Allianz Premier 15s side with immediate effect.
Codey, 25, arrives in Loughborough from Super W side Queensland Reds and becomes the first ever Wallaroo to play for the Club.
Daughter of former Australia back-row and current Rugby Australia president David Codey, the 6’0” lock only began playing touch rugby aged 18 – but her rapid rise has seen Codey captain local side Eastern Suburbs, progress into the Reds’ set-up and culminated in an international debut in 2022 against New Zealand.
“Lightning has some of the best players in the world and also outstanding leaders, from whom I hope to learn and develop as a rugby player and grow as a person,” said Codey.
“I believe playing in the Premier 15s – one of the most competitive leagues in the world – will accelerate my progression and help me to become the best player I can be.”Annabelle Codey
Loughborough’s Director of Rugby, Rhys Edwards, added: “We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Annabelle to our Lightning squad.
“Annabelle is an exciting and athletic second row, who will make history as the first Australian to join us. We’re very confident she will make an immediate impact in our environment.”
Lightning return to Northampton on Saturday 18 February as part of a Double Header afternoon, with both Loughborough and Northampton Saints locking horns with Sale Sharks at cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens. Tickets for both clashes are available now, starting from just £22 adult / £8 child*.
