The Saints players have been back at the club for a fortnight and are already hard at work getting ready for the club’s Aviva Premiership and European Rugby Champions Cup campaigns which start in October.
With an extended summer period in comparison to other years Finney and the performance team have used the opportunity to regularly take sessions off site to locations such as Unit 22 Crossfit in Northampton, something he says helps invigorate the squad.
“By its nature pre-season training is hard, and it can be repetitive, which is why we mix it up a bit to keep it fresh for the lads,” Finney commented. “We’ve developed great relationships with the likes of Unit 22 Crossfit, which is a great space and gives us the opportunity to work in a different way with the players.
“Changing locations also keeps the lads on their toes in a new setting with different equipment and not what they’re used to, and we’ve seen them respond positively.
“Overall we’re pretty happy with the way the first two weeks have gone, but we’re only getting started. We’ve set really high standards for ourselves over the past couple of years, and we only want to get better.”
