Rory Hutchinson kept his record from the tee clean as the Wanderers ran in five against Leicester Tigers A

WANDERERS 38 TIGERS 10 A derby double for Saints sees the Wandies stay unbeaten

Saturday, September 9, 2017

Though their guests held them out for most of the first half, the Wanderers fought back well in the second forty to keep Leicester Tigers scoreless and stay unbeaten in their Premiership Rugby A League defence.

After a slow start, Tigers got off the mark through a Tom Hardwick penalty and then added to that minutes later with a push over try through Harry Mahoney, which Hardwick converted.

The Wanderers did get on the scoreboard before the break though with Rory Hutchinson sending a smart penalty over just before the break.

Jamal Ford-Robinson got over for his second try in two games for the Wanderers just after the turnaround before adding a second just ten minutes later in another brilliant well-worked score.

A yellow card to Freddie Tuilagi for a dangerous tackle on Jamie Elliott in the air, that ended the wingers game, Saints made the most of their man quickly and sent Francois Van Wyk over after some strong phase play from the forwards.

It was not long before the bonus point score came for the home side with Tom Stephenson flying over out wide, Hutchinson kept his slate clean from the tee with the conversion to boot.

The Wanderers’ fifth came through a brilliant solo effort from Juan Pablo Estelles after the forwards got the side close to the line. Twisting out of three Tigers’ tacklers the centre dotted down with ease.

There was some toing and froing before the final whistle but the Wanderers had already done more than enough to stay unbeaten in the second game of their Premiership Rugby A League defence season.
