Local club rugby taking over the Gardens this April

Travis PerkinsSponsored by Travis Perkins

This coming Tuesday, April 14th, the Colts teams from Towcestrians and Old Northamptonians will go head-to-head in the 2015 Oceanic Cup (KO 6:00pm), followed by the Lewis Shield at 7:45pm, which will feature a clash between near rivals Northampton Old Scouts and Old Northamptonians.

Then on Tuesday, April 21st, Old Northamptonians will be back in action, this time against Daventry, in the Alliance Cup final.

All are welcome, with entry costing £5 for adults and £3 for juniors, all payable on the gate, with proceeds going towards the Northampton and District Rugby Alliance.

Car parking will be in Car Parks A, B and C, all accessible from Ross Road. Car parking costs £2 per car.

The Northampton and District Rugby Alliance includes 14 clubs from across Northamptonshire and north Buckinghamshire.

All three competitions are open to clubs from within the Alliance not playing in the National Leagues.

However the Lewis Shield is designed to promote player development within clubs, with individuals only eligible to play in the tournament if they have not won either the Lewis Shield, Alliance Cup or played in the semi-finals of the Bucks Cup.

Every club in the Alliance is also eligible to win the Paget Cup, which is awarded to the club whose first team has the highest winning percentage of its competitive games during a season, thereby enabling every club to compete on a level playing field within its own league.

This cup is going down to the wire in 2014/15, with Old Northamptonians and Towcestrians both having won 82 percent of their matches and Old Scouts 81 percent. The Saints are in fourth place with 73 percent.
