Saints supporting Help for Heroes at stadiumMK

The repeat of the 2014 Aviva Premiership final has been moved to stadiumMK, where it will help with the venue’s preparations ahead of its three Rugby World Cup matches later in 2015. Despite the match being several months away around two-thirds of stadiumMK’s seats have been sold already, reflecting the excitement surrounding both the fixture and the start of the biggest ever year of rugby in the East Midlands.

With the game also coming two days after St George’s Day, the Saints management believed it appropriate to work with an appropriate national charity, not least given the club’s long-standing links with the British Army that stretch all the way back to World War I.

The Saints will be wearing a special limited edition shirt for the match, with proceeds from sales to supporters going to Help for Heroes. The British Army will also play an important role in the day’s entertainment at stadiumMK, with further details to be announced closer to the time.

Saints chief executive Allan Robson says that the tie-up with Help for Heroes is particularly relevant.

“The Saints has had a long relationship with the British Army that goes all the way back to Edgar Mobbs, with many more players also giving service to their country, the likes of Tim Rodber, John Steele, Mattie Stewart and Chris Budgen, to name just a few,” he said.

“We work with a considerable number of charities and good causes throughout the course of a season, but with the ‘Best of English’ game coming just a couple of days after St George’s Day we felt that using the game to support Help for Heroes was relevant, and are looking forward to using the occasion raise significant funds.

“The initiatives we are discussing with the Army will in themselves be great entertainment and if the match reaches the standard and tension of the match at Allianz Park a few weeks ago then we will be in for a really special treat!”

The Hero shirt is now in the Saints Superstore. Celebrating county and country with Tudor red and white, with green and gold representing the club’s traditional colours, the Hero shirt is an authentic replica and made from the same material as the shirts that will be worn by the Saints at stadiumMK.

Priced at £54.99 for adults and £42.50 in junior sizes, £10 per shirt will be donated to Help for Heroes. The shirt can be ordered at the Saints Online Story by CLICKING HERE and following the straightforward instructions!
