Shred7s, Northampton Saints Community’s weight-management programme, is now open to new participants for 2023 – with the 12-week programme set to start for its fourth cohort in the New Year.
Run in association with Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Shred7s is a free fitness and weight-management programme which, following its launch in 2021 saw its first cohort lose a combine total of 140kgs, is set to launch for a fourth group on Thursday 5 January 2023.
With a mandate to help Saints supporters watch their weight, Shred7s focusses on weight loss through education on food and diet, as well as encouraging more physical activity in the form of Rugby 7s.
And the programme does not just focus on physical health, Shred7s participants will be given support from the mental health professionals at IAPT Talking Therapies Northants to understand unhealthy thought patterns, and the areas of mental wellbeing which can affect weight management.
The 12-week course is aimed at both men and women, and will begin at the start of January – funded by Northamptonshire Public Health and their Tier 2 weight-management programme. Participants take part in a weekly 7s touch rugby league, alongside the healthy-eating and exercise sessions.
Sessions on the new course are completely free of charge, with the 12-week programme – that targets both physical and mental health – limited to 40 participants.
Shred7s will target participants with a BMI of 28 and above, however considerations will be given to lower BMIs of 26 and 27. Participants that have previously signed up and not lost more than 5% body weight are able to reapply, as are participants that have not completed the full 12-week course previously.
