The sight of George Hendy galloping up the field at Twickenham in the 2023/24 Premiership final will live long in the memories of Northampton Saints supporters.
Trailing Bath heading into the final ten minutes, Hendy’s long stride and burst of acceleration paved the way for Alex Mitchell to score and end the Club’s ten-year wait to back up their 2014 success.
That was just one of many eye-catching moments that season, which included a brace of tries against Munster at cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens – one of which was voted the club’s Try of the Season – and another against Irish opposition in the Champions Cup semi-final defeat to Leinster at Croke Park.
Hendy’s journey with Saints began aged 13 when he shone in a sevens tournament and joined the Academy. He would progress into Northampton’s first-team squad five years later ahead of the 2021/22 season.
The former KES student and Shipston-on-Stour RFC player made a try-scoring debut against London Irish in November 2021’s Premiership Rugby Cup encounter, and three games into his senior Saints career, Hendy had four tries to his name as he struck against Harlequins and bagged a brace at Saracens.
A Premiership debut would follow as a replacement against Bristol Bears in April 2022, and the fullback/winger would make his first league start against the same opposition in October 2022.
Hendy has spent time on loan at partner club Bedford Blues and also represented England Under-20s in the 2022 Six Nations as well as in the Summer Series that followed. In February 2025, he featured for England A against Ireland A at Ashton Gate as a replacement.
